A short history of the art and graphic antiquarian bookshop:

In the late 1940s, my grandfather, Anton Düssel, held his first book and graphic auction in Düsseldorf. Later, until the early 1980s, he successfully ran his antiquarian bookshop in Cologne. My father, Karl Düssel, began his career in the antiquarian book business in the early 1980s in Berlin. From a flea market dealer, he gradually developed into a respected antiquarian on Kurfürstendamm and later on Gendarmenmarkt, where he ran a renowned antiquarian bookshop under the name "Stiche Düssel am Gendarmenmarkt".

After my father's death, the Düssel graphic antiquarian bookshop on Gendarmenmarkt, which we brothers had run together, was closed after 16 years of the heirs' community. It was time to take a new path and build something of our own. Today, at Gipsstrasse 4, the art and graphic antiquarian bookshop continues this tradition.

My collections of old city views, maps, architectural, botanical and other decorative graphics, paired with modern art and lithographs by Chagall, Braque, Miró, Picasso and Zille, among others, will be synchronized here on my homepage by the end of the year. All engravings, graphics, lithographs and contemporary works of art are of course originals as usual.
